How to Convert Megawatt to Watt
- 1 MW = 1000000 W
- 1 W = 0.000001 MW
- Example: convert 15 MW to W: 15 MW = 15 × 1000000 W = 15000000 W
Formula
W = MW × 1000000
Derivation from SI units:
- 1 MW = 10⁶ W
- 1 W = 1 J/s = 1 kg·m²·s⁻³
Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. Megawatt definition: megawatt; Watt definition: watt.
Worked examples
- A reading of 3 MW converts to 3000000 W.
3 MW × 1000000 = 3000000 W - A value of 50 MW is 50000000 W.
50 MW × 1000000 = 50000000 W

Where it's used
Megawatts are used for wind turbines (2–15 MW), while watts appear in electrical appliance ratings. Both measure power (energy per unit time), so the conversion is a fixed factor.
