Kinematic Viscosity Converter
Kinematic Viscosity Converter: convert between 6 kinematic viscosity units, for example 1 cSt = 1 mm²/s.
| Unit | Value |
|---|---|
| centistokes to square meter per second | 0.000001 m²/s |
| centistokes to square millimeter per second | 1 mm²/s |
| centistokes (cSt) | 1 cSt |
| centistokes to stokes | 0.01 St |
| centistokes to square centimeter per second | 0.01 cm²/s |
| centistokes to square foot per second | 0.00001076391042 ft²/s |
Convert kinematic viscosity between m²/s, mm²/s, centistokes, stokes, cm²/s and ft²/s. 1 cSt = 1 mm²/s exactly, the unit used for ISO lubricant viscosity grades.
ISO viscosity grades
ISO 3448 viscosity grades (ISO VG 32, 46, 68 …) are the mid-point kinematic viscosity in mm²/s (cSt) at 40 °C, with a ±10 % band.
Kinematic Viscosity unit definitions
- square meter per second (m²/s)
- The square metre per second (m²/s) is the SI unit of kinematic viscosity, the dynamic viscosity divided by density. Water at 20 °C is about 1.0 × 10⁻⁶ m²/s.
- square millimeter per second (mm²/s)
- The square millimetre per second (mm²/s) is 10⁻⁶ m²/s and exactly equal to one centistokes. ISO viscosity grades are defined in mm²/s at 40 °C.
- centistokes (cSt)
- The centistokes (cSt) is one hundredth of a stokes, exactly 1 mm²/s. Water at 20 °C is about 1.0 cSt.
- stokes (St)
- The stokes (St) is the CGS unit of kinematic viscosity, exactly 1 cm²/s or 10⁻⁴ m²/s, named after George Gabriel Stokes.
- square centimeter per second (cm²/s)
- The square centimetre per second (cm²/s) equals one stokes. It is also the common unit of diffusion coefficients in chemistry.
- square foot per second (ft²/s)
- The square foot per second (ft²/s) is the US kinematic viscosity unit, exactly 0.09290304 m²/s. Water at 68 °F is about 1.08 × 10⁻⁵ ft²/s.
