    • BOD Calculator

      BOD_t = L₀(1 − e^(−kt)), BOD₅ = (D₁ − D₂)/P

      k_T = k₂₀ × 1.047^(T − 20); P = sample volume ÷ bottle volume

      Example: Wastewater with ultimate BOD 250 mg/L and k = 0.23 per day at 20 °C, after 5 days: BOD at day 5 = 170.841 mg/L.

    • Oxygen Sag Curve Calculator

      D_t = (k_d L₀/(k_r − k_d))(e^(−k_d t) − e^(−k_r t)) + D₀e^(−k_r t)

      t_c = ln[(k_r/k_d)(1 − D₀(k_r − k_d)/(k_d L₀))]/(k_r − k_d); D_c = (k_d/k_r)L₀e^(−k_d t_c)

      Example: A river with mixed L₀ = 20 mg/L, D₀ = 1 mg/L, k_d = 0.23 and k_r = 0.46 per day: Critical (maximum) deficit D_c = 5.26316 mg/L.

    How to use these GATE Civil Engineering calculators

    GATE Civil Engineering is the broadest GATE paper, and almost every section carries numerical answer type questions. This hub follows the official syllabus: soil phase relationships, constant- and falling-head permeability, Terzaghi consolidation, Mohr–Coulomb strength, Rankine earth pressure, Terzaghi bearing capacity, Boussinesq stresses, infinite slopes and pile groups in geotechnical engineering; IS 456 limit-state beams and development length in structures; Hazen–Williams, Manning, critical depth, hydraulic jumps, Darcy’s law, wells, the rational method and duty–delta in water resources; BOD, oxygen sag and sedimentation in environmental engineering; IRC stopping sight distance and superelevation, Webster signals, Greenshields traffic flow and design msa in transportation; and curves, photogrammetry, CPM and PERT.

    Inputs use the units GATE papers are set in: kN, kPa and kN/m³ with γw = 9.81 kN/m³, cm and seconds for permeability, km/h for highway design, and mm and MPa for concrete. Indian codes are followed where the syllabus expects them, such as IS 456 for xu,max and bond stress and IRC for sight distance and superelevation.

    Work a previous-year question by hand, then check the number here. Each page shows the formula with your values substituted, so you can find where your working differs, and the full unrounded result helps match the NAT answer range.
