    Dynamic Viscosity Converter

Dynamic Viscosity Converter: convert between 6 dynamic viscosity units, for example 1 cP = 0.001 Pa·s.

centipoise to pound per foot-second0.0006719689751 lb/(ft·s)

    Convert dynamic (absolute) viscosity between Pa·s, mPa·s, centipoise, poise, lbf·s/ft² and lb/(ft·s). 1 cP = 1 mPa·s exactly.

    Dynamic vs kinematic viscosity

    Dynamic viscosity μ (Pa·s, cP) measures internal friction. Kinematic viscosity ν (m²/s, cSt) is μ divided by density: ν = μ / ρ. For water at 20 °C, μ ≈ 1.0 mPa·s and ν ≈ 1.0 cSt because its density is about 1 g/cm³; for oils the two numbers differ.

    Dynamic Viscosity unit definitions

    pascal-second (Pa·s)
The pascal-second (Pa·s) is the SI unit of dynamic (absolute) viscosity. Water at 20 °C is about 0.001 Pa·s and honey about 2–10 Pa·s.
    millipascal-second (mPa·s)
The millipascal-second (mPa·s) is one thousandth of a pascal-second and exactly equal to one centipoise.
    centipoise (cP)
The centipoise (cP) is one hundredth of a poise, exactly 1 mPa·s. Water at 20 °C is almost exactly 1 cP, which made it a convenient reference.
    poise (P)
The poise (P) is the CGS unit of dynamic viscosity, exactly 0.1 Pa·s. It is named after Jean Léonard Marie Poiseuille.
pound-force second per square foot (lbf·s/ft²)
The pound-force second per square foot (lbf·s/ft², equal to slug/(ft·s)) is the US engineering unit of dynamic viscosity, about 47.88 Pa·s.
    pound per foot-second (lb/(ft·s))
The pound (mass) per foot-second is a dynamic viscosity unit used with lbm-based US calculations, about 1.488 Pa·s. Water at 68 °F is about 0.000672 lb/(ft·s).
