Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit
To convert degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit, use °F = °C × 1.8 + 32: 37 °C = 98.6 °F, and 0 °C = 32 °F.
1 °C = 33.8 °F
Type in either box. Scientific notation works: 1.5e-3.

How to Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit
- 1 °C = 33.8 °F
- 1 °F = -17.22222222 °C
- Example: convert 37 °C to °F: 37 °C = (37 × 1.8 + 32) °F = 98.6 °F
Formula
°F = °C × 1.8 + 32
Derivation from SI units:
- T(K) = t(°C) + 273.15 (exact, by definition)
- T(K) = (t(°F) + 459.67) × 5/9; t(°F) = t(°C) × 9/5 + 32
- Solving for °F: °F = °C × 1.8 + 32
Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. Celsius definition: degree Celsius; Fahrenheit definition: degree Fahrenheit.
Worked examples
- Normal body temperature, about 37 °C, is 98.6 °F.
37 × 1.8 + 32 = 98.6 °F - A moderate oven set to 180 °C is at 356 °F.
180 × 1.8 + 32 = 356 °F

Where it's used
Weather, cooking and medical temperatures are given in Celsius almost everywhere except the United States, which uses Fahrenheit. The conversion needs a factor (1.8) and an offset (32), so the quick "double it and add 30" rule is only approximate.

Frequently asked questions
What is a quick way to convert °C to °F?
Double the Celsius value and add 30 for a rough answer; for the exact answer multiply by 1.8 and add 32. 20 °C is exactly 68 °F.
At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?
At minus 40: −40 °C = -40 °F.
What is the formula for degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit?
°F = °C × 1.8 + 32. For example, 37 °C = 98.6 °F.
What is 0 °C in °F?
0 °C = 32 °F, and 100 °C = 212 °F.
How do I convert a temperature difference from °C to °F?
For a difference (an interval), ignore the offset and multiply by 1.8 only: a change of 10 °C is a change of 18 °F.
