    ft-lb on a torque wrench

    Torque wrenches marked "ft-lb" or "ft·lbs" mean pound-force feet (lbf·ft). 1 lbf·ft = 12 lbf·in = 1.3558179483 N·m. Confusing in-lb with ft-lb over-tightens or under-tightens by a factor of 12.

    Torque and power

    Power = torque × angular speed. In SI, P[W] = T[N·m] × 2π × n[rpm] / 60; in US units, hp = lbf·ft × rpm / 5252.

    Torque unit definitions

    newton-meter (N·m)
The newton-metre (N·m) is the SI unit of torque: a force of one newton acting at one metre from the axis. It is dimensionally equal to a joule but is not written as J.
    kilonewton-meter (kN·m)
The kilonewton-metre (kN·m) is 1000 N·m, used for large torques and bending moments.
    newton-centimeter (N·cm)
    The newton-centimetre (N·cm) is one hundredth of a newton-metre.
    pound-foot (lbf·ft)
The pound-foot (lbf·ft, often written ft-lb on torque wrenches) is the torque of one pound-force at one foot, about 1.356 N·m.
    pound-inch (lbf·in)
    The pound-inch (lbf·in, written in-lb on many tools) is one twelfth of a pound-foot, about 0.113 N·m.
    ounce-inch (ozf·in)
The ounce-inch (ozf·in) is the torque of one ounce-force at one inch, about 7.06 mN·m.
    kilogram-force meter (kgf·m)
The kilogram-force metre (kgf·m, kg·m) is the torque of one kilogram-force at one metre, exactly 9.80665 N·m.
    kilogram-force centimeter (kgf·cm)
The kilogram-force centimetre (kgf·cm, often "kg·cm") is 0.0980665 N·m. Hobby servos are rated in it.
    dyne-centimeter (dyn·cm)
The dyne-centimetre is the CGS unit of torque, exactly 10⁻⁷ N·m.
