How to Convert Watt to Megawatt
- 1 W = 0.000001 MW
- 1 MW = 1000000 W
- Example: convert 15 W to MW: 15 W = 15 × 0.000001 MW = 0.000015 MW
Formula
MW = W ÷ 1000000
Derivation from SI units:
- 1 W = 1 J/s = 1 kg·m²·s⁻³
- 1 MW = 10⁶ W
Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. Watt definition: watt; Megawatt definition: megawatt.
Worked examples
- A reading of 100 W converts to 0.0001 MW.
100 W × 0.000001 = 0.0001 MW - A value of 1500 W is 0.0015 MW.
1500 W × 0.000001 = 0.0015 MW

Where it's used
Watts are used for electrical appliance ratings, while megawatts appear in wind turbines (2–15 MW). Both measure power (energy per unit time), so the conversion is a fixed factor.
