    Convert between Ω·m, Ω·cm, µΩ·cm, µΩ·m, nΩ·m, Ω·mm²/m, Ω·cmil/ft, kΩ·cm and MΩ·cm. Resistivity ρ is a material property; the resistance of a wire is R = ρL/A.

    Resistivity and conductivity

Conductivity is the reciprocal of resistivity: σ = 1/ρ. Copper at 1.7241 µΩ·cm has σ = 58 MS/m, which is 100 %IACS. Resistivity rises with temperature (about 0.39 % per °C for copper), so compare values at the same temperature, usually 20 °C.

    Electrical Resistivity unit definitions

    ohm metre (Ω·m)
The ohm metre is the SI unit of resistivity (ρ), the property that sets how strongly a material resists current: R = ρL/A. Copper is about 1.72 × 10⁻⁸ Ω·m at 20 °C.
    microohm centimetre (µΩ·cm)
The microohm centimetre is 10⁻⁸ Ω·m, a convenient size for metals: silver 1.59, copper 1.72, aluminium 2.65, stainless steel about 72 µΩ·cm at 20 °C.
    ohm centimetre (Ω·cm)
The ohm centimetre is one hundredth of an ohm metre. Semiconductor wafers, soils and water resistivity are commonly quoted in Ω·cm.
ohm square millimetre per metre (Ω·mm²/m)
The ohm square millimetre per metre is the resistance of a conductor 1 m long with a 1 mm² cross-section. Electricians and cable makers use it because wire sizes are given in mm²: annealed copper is 1/58 ≈ 0.01724 Ω·mm²/m.
    megaohm centimetre (MΩ·cm)
The megaohm centimetre is 10⁶ Ω·cm. Ultrapure water is specified by resistivity: the theoretical maximum at 25 °C is about 18.2 MΩ·cm.
    microohm metre (µΩ·m)
The microohm metre is 10⁻⁶ Ω·m. It is numerically equal to Ω·mm²/m; heating alloys such as nichrome are about 1.1 µΩ·m.

    nanoohm metre (nΩ·m)
The nanoohm metre is 10⁻⁹ Ω·m. Physics handbooks often list metal resistivities in nΩ·m: copper is about 17.2 nΩ·m at 20 °C.
ohm circular mil per foot (Ω·cmil/ft)
The ohm circular mil per foot is the US wire-table unit of resistivity: the resistance of one foot of wire with a cross-section of one circular mil. Annealed copper is about 10.37 Ω·cmil/ft at 20 °C.
    kiloohm centimetre (kΩ·cm)
The kiloohm centimetre is 1000 Ω·cm. Soil and process water resistivities are sometimes quoted in kΩ·cm.
