    Decitex (dtex)

The decitex is the mass in grams of 10 000 metres of filament or fibre, one tenth of a tex. It is close to the denier (1 dtex = 0.9 den) and is the usual metric unit for filament yarns and fibres.

    Symbol: dtex

Quantity: yarn count (linear density of yarns and fibres)

    SI relation: 1 dtex = 1 × 10⁻⁷ kg/m (exact)

    Derivation: 1 dtex = 1 g per 10 000 m = 0.1 tex = 10⁻⁷ kg/m (exact)

    Exact: yes, by definition

    Typical uses

    • Polyester and nylon filament yarns (for example 167 dtex)
    • Elastane and fine fibres
    • European technical data sheets
