Convert Linen Lea to Kilograms per Metre (NeL to kg/m)

Formula

kg/m = 0.001653515492855 ÷ NeL

Derivation from SI units:

• Linen lea = number of 300-yard leas per pound, so tex = 1653.5 ÷ count
• The coherent SI unit of linear density: mass in kilograms per metre of length.
• Solving for kg/m: kg/m = 0.001653515492855 ÷ NeL (a higher NeL means a lower kg/m)

Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. Linen Lea definition: linen lea; Kilogram per Metre definition: kilogram per metre.

Worked examples

1. A reading of 20 NeL converts to 0.00008267577464 kg/m.
   0.001653515493 ÷ 20 = 0.00008267577464 kg/m
2. A value of 40 NeL is 0.00004133788732 kg/m.
   0.001653515493 ÷ 40 = 0.00004133788732 kg/m

Where it's used

Linen Lea are used for linen and flax yarns, while kilograms per metre appear in ropes, cables and heavy tows. Both measure yarn count (linear density of yarns and fibres), but one system is the inverse of the other, so a fixed constant is divided by the value.
