Megabits per Second to Megabytes per Second (Mbps to MB/s)
1 megabit per second (Mbps) = 0.125 megabytes per second (MB/s). 1 MB/s = 8 Mbps. Example: 100 Mbps = 100 × 0.125 = 12.5 MB/s.

How to Convert Megabit per Second to Megabyte per Second
- 1 Mbps = 0.125 MB/s
- 1 MB/s = 8 Mbps
- Example: convert 100 Mbps to MB/s: 100 Mbps = 100 × 0.125 MB/s = 12.5 MB/s
Formula
MB/s = Mbps ÷ 8
Derivation from SI units:
- 1 Mbit/s = 10⁶ bit/s.
- 1 MB/s = 10⁶ B/s = 8 Mbit/s.
- 1 Mbps = 1000000 bps ÷ 8000000 bps per MB/s = 0.125 MB/s
Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. Megabit per Second definition: megabit per second; Megabyte per Second definition: megabyte per second.
Worked examples
- A 100 Mbps broadband plan downloads at up to 12.5 MB/s.
100 Mbps × 0.125 = 12.5 MB/s - A 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps) fibre line peaks at 125 MB/s.
1000 Mbps × 0.125 = 125 MB/s

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert Mbps to MB/s?
Divide by 8: 100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s. Expect 5–10 % less in practice from protocol overhead.
Is Mbps the same as MBps?
No. Mbps (lowercase b) is megabits per second; MBps or MB/s (uppercase B) is megabytes per second, eight times larger.
How many megabytes per second are in 1 megabit per second?
1 Mbps = 0.125 MB/s.
How do I convert megabits per second to megabytes per second?
Multiply the value in Mbps by 0.125, or divide it by 8. For example, 100 Mbps × 0.125 = 12.5 MB/s.
Is the Mbps to MB/s conversion exact?
Yes. Both units are defined exactly, and 1 Mbps is exactly 0.125 MB/s.
