Magnetic Field Strength Converter
Magnetic Field Strength Converter: convert between 5 magnetic field strength units, for example 1 Oe = 79.57747155 A/m.
| Unit | Value |
|---|---|
| oersted to ampere per metre | 79.57747155 A/m |
| oersted to kiloampere per metre | 0.07957747155 kA/m |
| oersted to ampere per centimetre | 0.7957747155 A/cm |
| oersted (Oe) | 1 Oe |
| oersted to kilooersted | 0.001 kOe |
Convert between amperes per metre, kiloamperes per metre, amperes per centimetre, oersted and kilooersted. The oersted is defined as 1000/(4π) A/m exactly, about 79.577 A/m.
Coercivity in kOe and kA/m
Permanent-magnet data sheets give coercivity (Hc, Hcj) in kOe or kA/m. 1 kOe = 79.577 kA/m, so an NdFeB grade with Hcj = 12 kOe has about 955 kA/m.
Magnetic Field Strength unit definitions
- ampere per metre (A/m)
- The ampere per metre is the SI unit of magnetic field strength (H). A long coil with n turns per metre carrying I amperes has H = nI inside.
- oersted (Oe)
- The oersted is the CGS unit of magnetic field strength, exactly 1000/(4π) A/m, about 79.58 A/m. In air, a field of 1 Oe produces a flux density of 1 G.
- kiloampere per metre (kA/m)
- The kiloampere per metre is 1000 A/m. Coercivity (Hc, HcJ) of permanent magnets is usually given in kA/m.
- kilooersted (kOe)
- The kilooersted is 1000 oersteds, about 79.58 kA/m. Magnet grade tables commonly give coercivity in kOe.
- ampere per centimetre (A/cm)
- The ampere per centimetre is 100 A/m. It appears in magnetic particle testing standards and soft-magnetic material data.
