Convert Litres per Second to MGD (L/s to MGD)

Formula

MGD = L/s × 0.02282446532374

or MGD = L/s ÷ 43.81263638889

Derivation from SI units:

• 1 L/s = 10⁻³ m³/s.
• 1 MGD = 10⁶ × 3.785411784 L per day ≈ 0.0438 m³/s.
• 1 L/s = 0.001 m³/s ÷ 0.04381263638889 m³/s per MGD = 0.02282446532374 MGD

Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. Litre per Second definition: litre per second; MGD definition: million US gallons per day.

Worked examples

1. A reading of 5 L/s converts to 0.1141223266 MGD.
   5 L/s × 0.02282446532 = 0.1141223266 MGD
2. A value of 50 L/s is 1.141223266 MGD.
   50 L/s × 0.02282446532 = 1.141223266 MGD

Where it's used

Litres per Second are used for tube-well and pump discharge, while million US gallons per day appear in US treatment-plant capacity. Both measure volumetric discharge of rivers, canals and water supply, so the conversion is a fixed factor.
