Convert MGD (imperial) to Litres per Second (MGD imp to L/s)

Formula

L/s = MGD (imp) × 52.61678240741

Derivation from SI units:

• 1 MGD (imp) = 10⁶ × 4.54609 L per day ≈ 0.0526 m³/s.
• 1 L/s = 10⁻³ m³/s.
• 1 MGD (imp) = 0.05261678240741 m³/s ÷ 0.001 m³/s per L/s = 52.61678240741 L/s

Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. MGD (imperial) definition: million imperial gallons per day; Litre per Second definition: litre per second.

Worked examples

1. A reading of 5 MGD (imp) converts to 263.083912 L/s.
   5 MGD (imp) × 52.61678241 = 263.083912 L/s
2. A value of 50 MGD (imp) is 2630.83912 L/s.
   50 MGD (imp) × 52.61678241 = 2630.83912 L/s

Where it's used

MGD (imperial) are used for older Indian municipal records, while litres per second appear in tube-well and pump discharge. Both measure volumetric discharge of rivers, canals and water supply, so the conversion is a fixed factor.
