Convert MGD (imperial) to MLD (MGD imp to MLD)

Formula

MLD = MGD (imp) × 4.54609

Derivation from SI units:

• 1 MGD (imp) = 10⁶ × 4.54609 L per day ≈ 0.0526 m³/s.
• 1 MLD = 10⁶ L/day = 1000 m³/day = 1000/86,400 m³/s.
• 1 MGD (imp) = 0.05261678240741 m³/s ÷ 0.01157407407407 m³/s per MLD = 4.54609 MLD

Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. MGD (imperial) definition: million imperial gallons per day; MLD definition: million litres per day.

Worked examples

1. A reading of 5 MGD (imp) converts to 22.73045 MLD.
   5 MGD (imp) × 4.54609 = 22.73045 MLD
2. A value of 50 MGD (imp) is 227.3045 MLD.
   50 MGD (imp) × 4.54609 = 227.3045 MLD

Where it's used

MGD (imperial) are used for older Indian municipal records, while million litres per day appear in water treatment and sewage plant capacity. Both measure volumetric discharge of rivers, canals and water supply, so the conversion is a fixed factor.
