Convert Acre-feet to Hectare-metres (acre-ft to ha-m)

Formula

ha·m = acre-ft × 0.1233481837548

or ha·m = acre-ft ÷ 8.107131937899

Derivation from SI units:

• 1 acre-foot = 43,560 ft³ = 1233.48183754752 m³.
• 1 ha·m = 10,000 m² × 1 m = 10⁴ m³ = 0.01 MCM.
• 1 acre-ft = 0.001233481837548 MCM ÷ 0.01 MCM per ha·m = 0.1233481837548 ha·m

Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. Acre-foot definition: acre-foot; Hectare-metre definition: hectare-metre.

Worked examples

1. A reading of 1000 acre-ft converts to 123.3481838 ha·m.
   1000 acre-ft × 0.1233481838 = 123.3481838 ha·m
2. A value of 500000 acre-ft is 61674.09188 ha·m.
   500000 acre-ft × 0.1233481838 = 61674.09188 ha·m

Where it's used

Acre-feet are used for US reservoir capacity and water rights, while hectare-metres appear in crop water requirement and duty–delta problems. Both measure volume of stored or released water (reservoirs, river flows, allocations), so the conversion is a fixed factor.
