Convert Hectare-metres to MAF (ha-m to MAF)

Formula

MAF = ha·m × 0.000008107131937899

or MAF = ha·m ÷ 123348.1837548

Derivation from SI units:

• 1 ha·m = 10,000 m² × 1 m = 10⁴ m³ = 0.01 MCM.
• 1 MAF = 10⁶ acre-feet = 1233.48 MCM.
• 1 ha·m = 0.01 MCM ÷ 1233.481837548 MCM per MAF = 0.000008107131937899 MAF

Both units are defined exactly, so the factor is exact. Hectare-metre definition: hectare-metre; MAF definition: million acre-feet.

Worked examples

1. A reading of 100 ha·m converts to 0.0008107131938 MAF.
   100 ha·m × 0.000008107131938 = 0.0008107131938 MAF
2. A value of 5000 ha·m is 0.04053565969 MAF.
   5000 ha·m × 0.000008107131938 = 0.04053565969 MAF

Where it's used

Hectare-metres are used for crop water requirement and duty–delta problems, while million acre-feet appear in indus Waters Treaty and Pakistan IRSA accounts. Both measure volume of stored or released water (reservoirs, river flows, allocations), so the conversion is a fixed factor.
